Biomass is biological material derived from animals and plants. With biomass power generation and heat utilization technologies, renewable energy can be produced. Greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions can be achieved by replacing fossil fuel based electricity and/or heat with biomass derived electricity and/or heat.

Wind power is generated by rotating wind turbines. The rotary motion conducted to a generator produces electricity. There are a number of different wind power systems ranging from large scale wind farms to small scale single turbines installed in people’s homesand in community facilities, such as schools. Greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions can be achieved by replacing fossil fuel based electricity with wind derived electricity.

Hydropower is generated by rotating hydro turbines with water. The rotary motion conducted to a generator produces electricity. Conventional large hydropower creates a big fall in the reservoir to generate power. Greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions can be achieved by replacing fossil fuel based electricity with wind derived electricity.

Solid waste/wastewater

Biogas recovered from organic waste at solid waste disposal sites and wastewater from food processing can be used for heat and electricity generation. A reduction in both fossil fuel based energy consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions can be achieved.

Industrial Process

The waste gas produced from industrial process contains a number of greenhouse gases (GHG), including carbon dioxide (CO2). In developing countries with rapid economic growth, an increase in GHG emissions derived from waste gas is expected. Measures such as discharge control and the recovery of waste gas leads to GHG emission reductions.

Energy efficiency

Promoting energy efficiency measures leads to greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions. The Rehabilitation/replacement of existing heat sources and introduction of management/ control systems to monitor energy consumption can improve the efficiency of the facilities as a whole.

In addition to the more typical project types, projects such as afforestation/reforestation, hydrogen generation, and district heating can also achieve greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions.
Among others, in afforestation/reforestation projects, carbon dioxide (CO2) removals by sinks as a result of forestation activity are counted as emission reductions.
