Projects Wind

Wind power is generated by rotating wind turbines. The rotary motion conducted to a generator produces electricity. There are a number of different wind power systems ranging from large scale wind farms to small scale single turbines used in people’s homes or in local community buildings, such as a school. Greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions can be achieved by replacing fossil fuel based electricity with wind derived electricity.

Zafarana Wind Power Generation Project, EgyptEgypt

Mitsubishi UFJ Morgan Stanley Securities developed the CDM baseline and monitoring methodology used for the project and received approval from the United Nations.

The project generates 120 MW of wind power in Zafarana, Egypt. It involves 120 wind turbine units, each with 1.5 MWcapacity. The project is being developed by the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) and is assisted by ODA loans from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC).

The project contributes approximately 250 thousand tCO2e of emission reductions per year.

Jiangsu Dongling Wind Farm Power Generation Project, China reductionsChina

The project generates 70.5 MW wind power along the coastline of the Yellow Sea in Jiangsu, China. It involves 47 turbine units, each with 1.5 MW capacity.

The project expects to generate 148,050 MWh electricity annually to be sold to the Jiangsu Electric Power Company for export to the East China Grid.

The project replaces fossil fuel based electricity generated in the grid, resulting in emission reductions of approximately 140 thousand tCO2e per year.

KL Rathi Steels Ltd., small-scale windpower project, IndiaIndia

The project generates 1.5 MW small scale wind power in the Kutch District, Gujarat, India. The Kutch District is an area with significant wind power potential. 1 unit of 1.5 MW capacity is installed in the project.

The project expects to sell the electricity under a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Gujarat Uria Vikas Nigam, an electricity company, for a period of 20 years.

The project replaces fossil fuel based electricity generated in the grid and avoids methane emission, resulting in emission reductions of approximately 2,700 tCO2e per year.

Baltra Wind Project in the GalapagosEcuador

The project includes a 7.5 MW wind turbine in an undeveloped area of the Island of Baltra in the Galapagos, Ecuador. On the island, the electricity supply has mainly been provided by diesel generators. The electricity generated by the project is also fed into a mini-grid in the Island of Santa Cruz, an island in the Galapagos which is home to nearly half of the country’s population.

As part of the Ecuadorian government’s voluntary initiative “Zero Fossil Fuel for the Galapagos Islands”, the project is expected to contribute to the sustainable development of the Galapagos Islands and protect the vulnerable ecosystems found on the islands.

The project generates emission reductions of approximately 8,900 tCO2e per year. The project has been registered as CDM, however, emission reduction has not been issued.
