We contribute to the development of local communities through employee volunteer activities and donations.

Kizukai Project

We are working on the Kizukai Project developed by the non-profit organization (NPO) Forest Lifestyle Research Institute.
The Forest Lifestyle Research Institute is an NPO that works to create a society where communities are interested in creating forests.
The Kizukai Project is a workshop-type program using domestic thinned timber, and incorporates learning activities, which include planting trees in forests around Japan, forest conservation, and learning about the importance of using trees.
By working with trees, both participating employees and children are provided with an opportunity to become aware of nature and forests.

1) Tsumiki Project

Since FY2015, we have been working on the Tsumiki Project in collaboration with Morgan Stanley MUFG Securities. We polish rectangular blocks of wood processed from domestic thinned timber with sandpaper, finish them into building blocks that can be played with safely, then donate them mainly to kindergartens and nursery schools in areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake.
In workshops, each group uses the completed building blocks to present works created according to a theme, which also provides an opportunity for communication among employees.

2) Creating Educational Puzzles

Since FY2018, we have been working on Creating Educational Puzzles.
We create educational puzzles with colorful patterns by attaching three-color masking tape to 3cm square cube-shaped blocks of wood cut out of domestic thinned timber, then donate them to kindergartens and nursery schools as toys to help nurture young people’s creativity.
The children create the same design as the sample by putting together pieces of the educational puzzle while looking at the sample design. They start with simple shapes, such as triangles and trees, but soon try more difficult patterns, which helps to develop their memory and spatial cognition.
As the puzzles are made of natural materials, they are also useful to create awareness of the environment the materials come from.

3) Chopstick Rest Making Project

Since FY2019, we have been working on the Chopstick Rest Making Project in collaboration with Morgan Stanley MUFG Securities.
We make chopstick rests with paper bands made from domestic thinned wood and donate them to Kodomo Shokudo - a community organization which provides meals to children at no or low cost - nationwide with a message to the children.
This initiative is also useful to educate the children about healthy eating and table manners.

Christmas Card Project

Since FY2012, we have been participating in the Christmas Card Project sponsored by NPO Wonder Art Productions in cooperation with Morgan Stanley MUFG Securities.
This is an activity to donate homemade Christmas cards to children who spend the festive time in hospitals due to their long-term medical care requirements.
Employees and their families create heartwarming cards by writing messages and drawing seasonal illustrations such as Christmas trees, Santa Claus, and snowmen on original Christmas cards using color pens, crayons, stickers, etc.
This is a project that puts messages of warmth and kindness of on Christmas cards and delivers them to children fighting illnesses.
The completed cards are delivered to hospitals nationwide through NPOs.

Clothing Drive

Since FY2014, we have participated in Clothing Drive in collaboration with Morgan Stanley MUFG Securities.
Employees bring clothes, linens and new daily necessities and donate them to social welfare corporation, The Salvation Army.
Each time a large number of clothes and other items are collected, The Salvation Army donates the collected items directly to homeless people and hospitals, etc.
We also hold charity bazaars and use the proceeds to support poverty and other social contribution activities in Japan and abroad.

Eyecity Eco Project

Since FY2018, we have been participating in the Eyecity Eco Project, an empty case recycling campaign for disposable contact lenses, organized by HOYA Corporation.
Collection boxes have been set up at our headquarters, where employees and their families contribute to the collections throughout the year.
Regardless of the manufacturer, empty disposable contact lens cases are all made of polypropylene, making them very suitable for recycling.
The empty cases are sold to a recycler, and the entire amount is donated to the Japan Eye Bank Association, which supports corneal transplants.
We also reduce CO2 emissions through recycling and as a result contribute to environmental conservation.

Used Book Sale Donation for Children’s Future

Since October 4 (Securities Investment Day in Japan), 2018, the securities industry as a whole, centered on The Japan Securities Dealers Association (JSDA) has been working on the Used Book Sale Donation for Children’s Future Fund, which is led by the Cabinet Office (CAO). CAO aims to create a society where all children can grow with hope.
The Company set up collection boxes at offices nationwide to collect used books from employees, clients and local residents.
The used books are then donated to organizations such as NPOs that support children who do not have sufficient learning opportunities and basic needs such as food, clothing and shelter through the Children’s Future Support Fund.

Financial Industry in Tokyo for Charity Run

Since FY2009, we have been participating in the Financial Industry in Tokyo For Charity Run (FIT Charity Run).
This activity started in 2005 as a marathon event operated by volunteers in financial institutions in Tokyo.
The total amount raised is then donated to multiple NPOs.
Each year, participating companies vote to select NPOs that have socially impactful activities rooted in the community but have not been able to secure sufficient funds for their activities for a number of reasons.
The purpose of this activity is to show that the financial industry is united in its commitment to social contribution, to strengthen teamwork within each company and group, and to promote connections within the industry.

TABLE FOR TWO

Since FY2018, we have collaborated with TABLE FOR TWO International, a NPO.
This program is a social contribution movement from Japan that simultaneously addresses the eating imbalance in developing countries suffering from hunger and malnutrition, and in developed countries suffering from obesity and lifestyle-related diseases.
The healthy menu provided at the headquarters employee cafeteria helps fund the TFT program as 20 yen per meal is donated to school lunches for children in developing countries.
